William Henry Mack

November 17, 1937 — January 10, 2017

William Henry (Bill) Mack died in Las Cruces, New Mexico on Tuesday, January 10th, 2017 at the age of 79. Bill is survived by his daughter Leasa Greenamyer, son-in-law Robert Greenamyer of Las Cruces, NM. his grandchildren Shaun Greenamyer of Carlsbad, California, Nicholas and Jessica Greenamyer of Las Cruces, James and Jodi Greenamyer of Goodyear, AZ and his faithful dog Dodger. He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas F and Edith R Mack, his brother Thomas F Mack Jr. of San Bernardino, Ca. And his wife Cathryn "Jeanne" Mack. Bill was born on November 17, 1937 in San Bernardino, Ca to Thomas F & Edith R Mack. After his high school graduation Bill worked for the US Forest Service on the Modoc Forest in Northern California. He attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo for one year before joining the Forestry Service full time. In 1960 he married Jeanne, his wife of 55 years. After a decade in the USFS he joined the Lake Arrowhead Fire District in the San Bernardino Mountains, of San Bernardino County, California. Bill retired from Fire Service in 1987. After that he worked seasonally for Rezek Equipment setting up and maintaining Fire Camps and other Emergency situation facilities. In 1998 Bill and Jeanne retired to Las Cruces, New Mexico where they made many new friends in the community and amongst the Dona Ana Peppers, M Mountain Sam's, and Holiday Rambler RV groups. Bill greatly enjoyed traveling in his RV and was a loyal friend often traveling to many States to visit them as well as to explore the contiguous US and Alaska. He was also an accomplished wood worker and enjoyed working in the vegetable garden as well as in the yard that he tended so well. A memorial celebration will be held at the family home in Las Cruces on January 21st at 2:00pm. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Cancer Society. The family would like to thank Mesilla Valley Hospice both the in home care staff, and the staff at La Posada for their kind and compassionate care.
