Vodene Schultz, 76 of Las Cruces, NM died Tuesday February 18, 2014. She was born to Vodiman and Jeffy Norwood on October, 6, 1937 in San Angelo, TX. She was raised in Deming, NM and after graduating college with a masters degree in mathematics Vodene began a lifelong passion of teaching Mathematics. She had a unique ability of explaining math so all of her students could understand. Vodene educated the minds of the future for 51 years, working in many different school districts from 1962 until she retired in December, 2013. Vodene was acknowledged as the Texas Mathematics Teacher of the Year in 2013. She was active with former Sen. Jeff Bingaman's campaigns and was a past-president of National Education Association - New Mexico (NEA-NM). Vodene enjoyed gardening, cross stitching, quilting, and politics but her true love was her family, taking her grandchildren on many traveling adventures all over the world. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her husband Carl Schultz of the family home, mother Jeffy Norwood of Las Cruces, NM, daughters, Danette Lewis and Husband Jerry of Round Rock, TX, Barbara Patterson and Husband Allen Perry of Roswell, NM and son, David Patterson and wife Linda of Marietta, GA. Vodene is also survived by her sister Mary Shepard and huband Lee of Boerne, TX, and her brother Vode Norwood of El Paso TX, and grandchildren, Sean, Diane, Paul, Kate, Maggie, Sammy, Hailey, Oliver, Garrett and Michael and great grandchildren, Michelle, Alana, Leiham and Owen. She was preceded in Death by her father, her grandparents and her sister Jean Lewis. A memorial service to celebrate Vodene's life will be held at Getz Funeral Home on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 10:00 AM. PDF Printable Version
