Vivian Wakefield, 86, of Las Cruces, NM passed away in the early morning of March 27th at her daughter's home. She had been ill for several months before her death. Her daughter, Carolyn Joy Hulsey, preceded her in death. She is survived by: a brother Stanley Weaver of Clint, Texas; a sister Vinnie Nichols of Hobbs, New Mexico; a daughter Jan Snyder of Las Cruces, a son-in-law James B. Hulsey of Las Cruces; her grandchildren; Randy Hulsey and his wife Linda of Colorado Springs, CO, Melinda Dennis and her husband Kevin of Pahrump, NV, Brandy Wilmes and her husband Rusty of Las Cruces, Wendy Snyder of Las Cruces and her two great-grandchildren; Brian Hulsey of Colorado Springs, CO and Caitlin Swale of Pahrump, NV. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive Mrs. Wakefield. Vivian was born in Kilgore, Texas to Minnie and Jim Weaver in 1919. She was their third child and oldest daughter. The family moved to New Mexico when she was six years old. She started school in La Mesa, New Mexico. Later the family moved to Clint, Texas where they farmed. Vivian graduated from Ysleta High School and attended Sul Ross State Teacher's College where she received her Bachelor's Degree. She later received her Masters Degree from Texas Western (UTEP). Vivian started teaching in Ozona, Texas. She taught in Texas fourteen years and then moved to Las Cruces in 1955 where she taught school for the next twenty-seven years. She taught at Mesilla Park one year and when Conlee Elementary opened she began teaching there. She continued there until her retirement. She taught for a total of forty-one years. Mrs. Wakefield will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, teacher and avid softball fan. She will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held at Getz Funeral Home on Thursday April 6th, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. with burial of Vivian's cremains to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
