Las Cruces, NM – Verneta (Nita) Faye Barron Elder, age 92, peacefully passed away in her home on February 2, 2024. She was born on January 4, 1932, in Abernathy, Texas. Verneta was married to Alfred Dwayne Elder on June 12, 1949, and they shared a loving marriage for 68 years until his passing on October 1, 2017.
Verneta is survived by her two loving daughters, Cynthia Denise Elder Johnson (Greg) and Lyntha Darlene Elder Masterson; four grandchildren, Justin Johnson, Christopher Masterson (Kim), James Masterson (Amanda), and Jacquelyn Masterson; as well as nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Nell Dean Apperson of Lewisville, TX and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Verneta was predeceased by her sisters Dortha Mae Conn and Ella Marie Barron as well as her brothers Verlon Wayne Barron and Lawrence Ell Barron. She had a strong Faith in God and a good sense of adventure as she traveled extensively with her husband during his military service. Verneta had many hobbies including sewing, bowling, ceramics, and exploring different parts of the United States. Above all else, she cherished spending time with her family.
Verneta was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church in Las Cruces, NM where she was active until her later years.
Visitation will be held on February 14, 2024, from 5 to 7 pm at Getz Funeral Home located at 1410 E Bowman Ave., Las Cruces, NM 88001.
Funeral services will take place on February 15, 2024, at 10 am at First Baptist Church located at 805 Montana Ave., El Paso, Texas 79902. Following the funeral service, a graveside service will be held at Ft Bliss National Cemetery located at 5200 Fred Wilson Ave., El Paso, TX 79906 at 1:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Youth Ministry at Calvary Baptist Church located at 1800 S Locust St., Las Cruces, NM 88001.
The memory of Verneta Faye Elder will forever be cherished by her family and friends. She will be remembered for her Faith, love, kindness, adventurous spirit, and her unwavering devotion to her family
