Sylvia Stockman

November 27, 1975 — December 26, 2020

Sylvia (Castro) Stockman of Las Cruces, NM, gained her wings and was called home to Heaven December 26, 2020. Sylvia was born November 27, 1975 to Manuel and Rosie Castro, their second of four daughters. Sylvia worked as a day care provider for over 16 years while also working as a helper at a local elementary school where she was affectionately known to the kids as Ms. Sylvia. Sylvia was a loving daughter, rocking sister, devoted mother, caring Auntie, and proud Nana. Sylvia will always be remembered for her perfect jet-black hair, her love of the 80's, her free spirit, and her contagious smile. Opening up to Sylvia was easy as she made anyone feel welcome and safe in her home. She was everyone's Auntie and our fierce Wonder Woman! Anyone who knew Sylvia knew that her daughters were always her first priority and that her grandson had her wrapped around his little finger. Sylvia loved to cook, sing and dance, and use her famous catchphrase, "Everybody Wang Chung Tonight". Sylvia was uniquely genuine, truly selfless, and had a heart of pure gold. Sylvia is survived by her daughters, Savanna Zertuche-Whitlock (Tyler) and Evanee Stockman; her beautiful mother, Rosie Castro; her sisters, Lisa, April, and Karmella; her nieces and nephews, Raiden (Brianna), Andrew, Julian, Isaiah, Nevaeh, Autumn, Dimitry, Manuel, and Julyssa; as well as the love of her life, her grandson, Casey Whitlock. Sylvia was preceded in death by her dear father Manuel Castro. There will be a funeral liturgy at Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral, 1240 S. Espina St. February 6, 2021 at 10:30 am. Due to current COVID-19 restrictions this service is limited to family members and close friends. Any post Funeral gatherings will be announced at a later date. "When I come to the end of the road and the sun has set for me, I want no rites in a gloom filled room. Why cry for a soul set free? Miss me a little, but not too long, and not with your head bowed low. Remember the love that once we shared, miss me, but let me go. For this is a journey we must all take and each must go alone. It's all part of the Maker's plan, a step on the road to home. When you are lonely and sick at heart, go to the friends we know, and bury your sorrows in doing good deeds. Miss me, but let me go."- Author unknown Service Information
