Steven Michael Harbour

September 24, 1959 — January 5, 2023

Steven (Steve) Michael Harbour born September 24th, 1959, passed peacefully in his sleep after a short bout with cancer on January 5th, 2023. Steve was born in San Francisco California to John and Barbara Harbour. He was the second born of four siblings, two sisters and one brother. Steve was a lifelong New Mexican and lived in Albuquerque until he joined the US Navy in

1977. He served in the US Navy for six years, including a stint on the USS Ranger CV-61, he was honorably discharged in 1983.

Steve met his beloved wife, Rebecca (Becky) Sanchez, in November 1983 when Becky was out country dancing to celebrate her birthday. Steve and Becky were married in 1986, they celebrated 36 wedding anniversary this past 4th of July. Early in their marriage Steve worked at Sandia National labs during the day and obtained his college engineering degree at night. He was

an accomplished electronic and electrical engineer working at both Sandia and Los Alamos National Labs. He was recognized with many awards for service to his country and national security over his career. He retired from Las Alamos in the spring of 2022 and moved south to Las Cruces, NM.

He was a devoted and supportive father to two daughters, Emily, and Elizabeth. He was a band booster, swim team timer, and loved to ride his Goldwing with the girls. Steve also had four grandchildren whom he loved and spoiled with both gifts and time.

Steve was a man's man. He loved all things outdoors including fishing, camping, hiking, and dirt bike riding. After his family, his true passion was motorcycles. He started rebuilding bikes in his early teens and never stopped. He was an avid collector and expert rider on both street and dirt. His passion for motorcycles is now shared with the entire family. Steve was happiest when he was outside, in the woods, on a single-track trail.

Steve's huge heart and dry sense of humor will be missed by everyone who knew him. Steve is survived by his wife Rebecca of Las Cruces, NM; his Daughter Emily and her husband Sterling Hamilton and their four children Ella, James Eli, Georgia, and Max of Silver City, NM; his Daughter Elizabeth and her husband Graham Chapman of Albuquerque, NM; his Brother Daniel

and his wife Darleen Harbour of Placitas, NM; his sister Eileen Harbour and her son Jonathan Cook of Rio Rancho, NM.

Steve is proceeded in death by his older sister Ellen Harbour, his father John Harbour, his mother Barbara Harbour, his nephew Tyler Cook and his father-in-law Eli Sanchez.

Steve will also be missed by his doodles, Oakley and Bailey, his grand dogs Mae, Zia, Nova and Echo and his cat Cleo.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, January 14, 2023 at Getz Funeral Home Chapel.
