Stanley Hawkinson

Stanley Guy Hawkinson (1934 - 2023) Stanley G. Hawkinson, 88, of Las Cruces, NM, died in Albuquerque on September 16, 2023. Stanley was born November 11, 1934 in Gary, IN to Ivan and Grace Hawkinson. He was an only child. The family moved to Arizona in 1946 and then to New Mexico in 1949. Stanley graduated from New Mexico State with a degree in Math and later earned a Master's degree in Computer Programming from NMSU. Stanley met the love of his life, Frances Adams, while singing in the choir at St. Paul's UMC. Excited to start their new lives together, the two were married June 2, 1956. They had two children, Stacy Hawkinson of Albuquerque, NM and Roxanne Hawkinson Dillon of Plano, TX. Their children meant the world to them. Stanley enjoyed his role as a grandpa. He treasured his time with his grandkids Dylan Hawkinson and Tanner and Tyler Dillon, and loved being their Papa. Stanley was passionate about his job at White Sands Missile Range. He started working there in college and continued for his entire career. Stanley was an active member of University United Methodist Church, devoting his time and energy to the choir and teaching adult Sunday School classes. He served as the choir director for a number of years as well. The Kairos Prison Ministry was also an important part of Stanley's life. He served on the worship team for years, which he loved. Later in his life he enjoyed playing with a recorder group at Good Samaritan. Music always played an important part of Stanley's life. Everyone who knew Stanley knew how much he loved doing puzzles and playing Sudoku. These hobbies served his mathematical and problem-solving skills well. He will always be remembered for his patience and wisdom, making sure everyone was taken care of. We will miss Stanley every day. His memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him. Stanley Hawkinson was preceded in death by his wife Frances, and is survived by his son Stacy, daughter Roxanne and her spouse Brian, grandsons Dylan, Tanner and Tyler, sister-in-law Lynda Turrentine, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Cremation will take place and his memorial service will be held at 11AM on October 9th, 2023 at University United Methodist Church, 2000 S. Locust, with Rev. Dr. Heike Miller officiating. Cremains will be interred at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Memorial gifts in Stanley's name may be made to University United Methodist Church, 2000 S.
