Sherry Nelle Taylor

May 16, 1932 — June 4, 2021

Las Cruces - Sherry N. Taylor, age 89, passed away on June 4, 2021, in her daughter's home in Las Cruces, New Mexico. She was born on May 16, 1932, in Decatur, TX to Bluford and Vernice Walker. After graduating from Decatur High School, Sherry attended North Texas State Teachers College and received a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education with emphasis in piano. Sherry received a Master's Degree in Music Education from University of Colorado, Boulder and an Administrators Certificate from New Mexico State University. She was a music classroom teacher for over thirty-one years in the Alamogordo Public School District. Later in her career, Sherry became the Alamogordo Public School District Director of Music. Sherry retired in 1991. For over 32 years, Sherry served as the Holloman Air Force Base Chapel pianist/organist and the Protestant choir director for over 20 years. During her service, Sherry was presented with the prestigious Armed Forces Four Chaplains Award Distinguished Service.

Sherry is survived by, Phillip Taylor and his wife, Mary, of Alamogordo, NM; Karen Ohman and her husband, David, of Las Cruces, NM; James Taylor and his wife, Marilyn, of Denton, TX; and her brother James Walker and his wife, Jo Beth, of Levelland, TX. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Sherry was preceded in death by her parents.

A Memorial Celebration of Life will be held at Calvary Chapel Three Crosses, which is located at 4301 Bataan Memorial West Highway 70, Las Cruces, NM 88012 at 2:00 pm on Friday, July 9, 2021.

At her request, Sherry's ashes will be interred with her parents, during a small gathering at the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Ruidoso, NM at 1:00 pm on Saturday, July 10, 2021.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association of NM.
