Samuel M. Bennett

Samuel M. Bennett, 94, of Las Cruces, passed to eternal rest on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008. He was born Sept. 28, 1913 in New Ross, Wexford Co, Ireland to John and Ann Brewer Bennett. Samuel came to the United States when he was 15 years old. He was a retired from the Metropolitan Sanitary District of Chicago and as a manager from the J.E. Siebel Company after many years of faithful service. Samuel had a love of traveling the world over. He will be deeply missed by all his family and friends who knew and loved him. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years Gertrude Bennett of the family home; daughter Carole Schimick of Des Plain, Ill; brother Paedric Bennett of Ireland; sister Tessie of Ireland; grandchildren Megan and Matthew Lennon and Jimmy Sammons and his wife Eileen; son-in-law James Lennon of Chicago, Ill; brother-in-law Frank Mitchell and wife Sylvia of Chicago, Ill; sister-in-law Lorraine Henderson of Las Cruces. Also surviving him are many nieces, nephews and cousins. His daughter Connie preceded Samuel in death. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008 at Getz Funeral Home where a prayer vigil will follow at 7 PM. Sam's funeral mass is at 11:00 AM on Friday, Jan. 18, 2008 at St. Genevieve's Catholic Church with Fr. Ricardo Bauza officiating. Rite of Committal will be at Masonic Cemetery.
