Ruth L. Abernathy

Ruth L. Abernathy, 84 years, passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 30, 2005. She was born in Susakawa, Oklahoma on June 6, 1921. Las Cruces NM has been her home for more than 75 years. She managed the Las Cruces Meat Company for more than 40 years. For over 45 years, Ruth was an active member of the Las Cruces Benevolent Patriotic Order of Does. She served as an officer and became a life member of the order at age 70. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her only daughter, Wilma (Kitty) Walters and son-in-law Nazario; grandchildren; Tamorah Hernandez and spouse Jaime of San Antonio, TX, Edward Brown and spouse Maria of Virginia Beach, VA and Trina Walters of Las Cruces, NM, great grandchildren; Chris, Megan and Amanda Brown, Ryan James and Kelsey Jo; brothers and sisters; William E. Maxwell and spouse Lahoma of Bakersfield, CA, Hazel Jonas of Bentonville, AR; Billie Jean Cannon and spouse Charles of Colorado Springs, CO; and Geraldine Hampton and spouse James Hampton of Phoenix, AZ. Ruth was preceded in death by her grandsons; James Brown and Randal Walters as well as her parents Lillie and William Maxwell, one brother; Fred Maxwell, and sisters; Leonor Brenton, Helen Kyle, Juanita Smith, Lucy Como, Dorothy Madison and Jackie Christopher. A memorial service will be held at 10:00am, Saturday, September 3, 2005 at Getz Funeral Home, corner of Solano and Bowman. 526-2419, with Rev. Chip Moore officiating.
