Russell Albert 'Russ' Boor

March 1, 1934 — June 4, 2017

Russell "Russ" Albert Boor, 83, a resident of Las Cruces, NM passed away quietly at his home on the morning June 4, 2017. Russ was born March 1, 1934 in Boise, Idaho to Franklin and Evelyn Boor. Russ passed on a beautiful Sunday morning with his children and his wife Nadine by his side. He graduated with an electrical engineering degree from the University of Idaho and served four years following graduation with the US Army. He married Liane Edlefsen, also of Boise, Idaho. They moved to El Paso, TX while he was serving with the U.S. Army at WSMR and later lived in Albuquerque, NM before finally settling in Las Cruces, NM. Russ and Liane had four children together who still survive. Russ later met the final love of his life, Nadine Lewellen Boor and they were married in Las Cruces, NM on July 19, 1985 with the children by their side. Russ and Nadine spent the following 32 wonderful years together traveling the world, enjoying life, family and friends. Russ and Nadine's life and love were an inspiration to all they met. Russ was a man of many talents and skills. He was a gentle giant among men. He used his size, strength and mental abilities to comfort and protect versus intimidate. He was happy and full of life, often referred to as "Sunshine" by family members. There were few projects or tasks that he was not able to master. He was a mentor to many, a mechanic, a dirt track stock car driver, a chef, a leader, an avid outdoorsman and a handyman of all trades. Russ retired from his career at White Sands Missile Range after 30 years. He witnessed and participated in the development of many new technologies and systems during those years and nurtured many lasting friendships. He often shared the wonder of science and engineering with his children and their classmates. He stayed active during his retirement years traveling the world with his wife Nadine, sharing his gardening skills as one of Dona Ana County's Master Gardeners, serving on the Aging and Long Term Services Advisory Committee and in various rolls for the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. Russ was a tireless volunteer, a scout leader, Santa for Alameda Elementry, a tutor, a coach, a mentor and the consummate teacher. He was preceded in death by his parents, Franklin and Evelyn Boor. He is survived by his sons, Darwin (Brenda), James, Tony (Sue), his daughter Karen Boor Tekrony (Vince), and his step daughter Paula Allen, along with his loving wife Nadine and nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren. They all brought him great joy. Russ loved his family, his friends and his life. He, like his father, loved to feel the earth under his fingernails. He loved to nurture and grow all the good things and people he came in contact with. He was a master gardener in so many aspects of his life!
