Ruperto Flores

December 25, 1940 — February 13, 2015

Devoted father and a very strong man Ruperto Flores passed away at the age of 74 years on February 13, 2015 in Las Cruces, New Mexico in company of his loving wife, children and a grand-daughter. Ruperto was born on December 25th, 1940 in a small rural town called Tancoco, Veracruz, Mexico of parents Pedro Flores and Bruna Vigueros de Flores, who preceded him in death several years ago. He joined the army in Mexico and proudly served his country. Ruperto immigrated in his forties to the United States in the 1980's becoming a U.S. Citizen, years later. Ruperto settled down in beautiful Las Cruces, New Mexico which became his adopting motherland and the place where he wanted to spend the rest of his life-as he would proudly express whenever he had a chance. Ruperto was known as a very honest and hardworking man that was admired and respected by those who met him. As a self-taught construction professional, he would hire unexperienced young men and teach them his trade-many of them have gone onto successfully making their living, using these teachings. He enjoyed playing billiards, dominoes, and of course good Mexican music and food. In his later years he became an enthusiastic gardener growing his own tomatoes, chili (spicier the better!), cilantro, roses, etc. Ruperto's major achievements were his children and work. Ruperto was one of the strongest men we have ever met, with a unique loving attitude for young kids. Ruperto is survived by his adult six children, his caring spouse Rita Olivas, four step-children, one daughter-in-law, fourteen grandchildren, a beautiful great-grandchild, and numerous "adopted-life-raised" kids. Funeral services will be held at Getz Funeral Home, located at 1410 E. Bowman Avenue in Las Cruces, NM on February 14, 2015 from 8:30 am - 12:00 pm. A barbecue reception will be held at his late address at Moon River Loop after funeral services-you are welcome to join the family to celebrate Ruperto's life!
