It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that the family of Rosemarie Maynez announce her passing on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 in Las Cruces after a lengthy illness. Our beloved Rosie was born to Luis and Josefa Maynez on December 17, 1942 in Las Cruces.
Rosie attended Holy Cross School from first through eighth grades, Court Jr. High, Las Cruces High School and New Mexico State University where she received Bachelor and Master degrees in accountancy. She retired from NMSU Physical Science Lab in 2010. In prior years she served on the staff of NM Congressman Harold Runnels. One of her many duties was to translate all documents and correspondence from Spanish to English. After several years in D.C. she returned home to care for her mother.
Because of her great interest in history, archeology, family history, and ancestry, Rosie traveled the world to Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas. She gathered a vast and unique collection of music, art, and her treasured books. She served on the Board of Directors of the NMSU Museum, NMSU Amigos de Las Americas, and Las Cruces Symphony. She was an active member of the NMSU Alumni Executive Council, the New Mexico Museum of Natural History Foundation and the El Paso Symphony Association.
Rosie loved to sing and dance. Her sister, Raquel, taught her Mexican and Spanish dances, ballet and tap, ballroom dances, and square dancing. She was a dedicated participant of Jazzercise for over thirty years. She sang soprano in the Christmas play “Los Pastores” which was performed at San Albino’s Church. She was an accomplished pianist and her rendition of “Clair de Lune” was everyone’s favorite. Her sister Lupita, would like to add “ The reason Rosie became an accomplished pianist is because, when it was time to wash dishes she ran to practice and I washed the dishes, so I became an accomplished washer of dishes and I always reminded her of it.”
Rosie was a happy person and nothing made her happier than to host her family and friends in her home for fun, laughter, music, dancing, good food and fine wine. She was the queen of enchiladas and menudo which she served for her traditional Christmas Eve celebration and other special occasions.
Rosie was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Hector Maynez, her sisters Raquel Sierra and Emma Garcia, brother-in-law Reymundo Garcia, brother-in-law Rex Glover, her niece Dolores Sierra Jacobs and her husband Vernon Jacobs, and her nephew Steve Glover.
Rosie is survived by her sister Irma Lupita Glover, cousin Carmen Mestas Barcena (who was like a sister), nieces and nephews: Teresa Glover, John Patrick Glover (Sylvia), Justin Glover (Dorothy) their children Joseph and Grace, Taylor Glover Garrison (Chris) their children Mason and Emilia, Susie Barela (Martin), Ione Muire, Enrique Sierra (Peggy), Roberto Sierra, Cristina Talley, Cecilia Farmer (James), Leticia Sullivant (Randy), Carla Fitzgerald (Robert), Ray Garcia (Bibe), Joe Garcia (Jenny), Celina Einig (Bill), David Garcia (Cindy), Margaret Rhea (Donny), Ana Stewart (Michael), Monique Underwood, Laura Ledgard, Phillip Maynez, and her many friends.
Rosie’s family would like to thank the priests from St. Albert the Great Newman Parish, Father Joe for his visits and blessings, Father Kevin for administering the sacrament of Anointing the Sick, Mary and Jerry Iadicco, Gloria Ostic, Isabel Gallegos and Elaine Paredes for taking Holy Communion each week. A special thanks to Elaine, a childhood friend and our parents’ Goddaughter, for her prayers with the family and blessings for Rosie on her last day.
