Rose Mai Squires

May 18, 1930 — January 25, 2009

Rose Mai Squires, 78, of Las Cruces, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2009 surrounded by her children and friends. She was born May 18, 1930 in Havana, Arkansas to Jessie and Vera Parks Lewis. After graduating from high school in Denison, Tx, Rose attended North Texas State University, moved to Las Cruces in 1950, and soon after started working at White Sands Missile Range for Clyde Tombaugh where she met her husband Marvin. Rose was a charter member of the Desert Daubers Garden Club, former president of the Jr. Women's Club, former Dona Ana County Democratic Chairwomen, worked with the Hospital Auxiliary, and the March of Dimes. Later, she served as a substitute teacher at Mesilla Park Elementary School. However, her life's passion was her walk with God and her family. Her goal was to be a homemaker and that was what she did best. Rose chose to sacrifice greatly yet joyfully for her husband and children. She loved to teach children's bible classes and was a devoted member of University Church of Christ. Her faith was strong and unwavering. Facing three different types of cancers three separate times her faith never faltered. Rose will be deeply missed by her family and all who loved her. She is survived by her three children Stephen Squires and wife Lisa, Pamela Tucker and husband John all of Las Cruces and Jennifer Fasano and husband Michael of Albuquerque, NM. Also surviving her are her six grandchildren Dr. John J. Tucker II, Spencer Tucker, Michaela Fasano, Phillip Fasano, Mitchel Squires and Alexis Squires. Rose was preceded in death by her loving husband of 52 years Marvin Squires in 2006. A visitation will be held form 9 to 10 AM on Friday, Jan. 30, 2009 at University Church of Christ where a funeral service to celebrate her life will follow at 10:00 AM with David Harrelson officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Pallbearers: Ned Tutor, John Tucker I, John Tucker II, Spencer Tucker, Michael Fasano, Ken Needham, Johnny Russell, Stephen Squires and Honorary Pallbearers will be Jimmy Russell, Larry Cammack, Nathan Cleek, Delbert Hawkins, Dr. James Tucker, Rex Berryhill, Gene Peugh, Dean Peugh, Wayne Tibbs, Dr. Bill Clark, Dick Davis, Rick Griffith, Leon Hampton, Wally Hill, Dr. G.H. Wright, and Scott Wallis. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Youth Fund at the University Church of Christ. PDF Printable Version
