Rose Cardenas

Rose Rivera Cardenas was born August 28,1948, and lived life to the fullest before entering into eternal rest with our Lord, Jesus Christ, on December 27, 2018. She was dearly beloved as a wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend. Her presence will be greatly missed by the countless number of people whose hearts she touched. Her defining characteristics were compassion, eagerness to help others, and an ability to see the best in people. Those who knew her well will never forget her electric smile and warm embrace. Rose dedicated her professional life to serving others, predominantly young children. Over a career of more than thirty years she established herself through hard work and dedication as a director in childcare facilities. She loved spending time with kids and inspiring young minds. In recent years, she continued her dedication by providing care to the elderly. Rose was active in the Catholic Church and spent many years as a Eucharistic minister. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Alonso Cardenas; daughter, Cecile Gerdes and husband Jonathan of Hobbs, NM; son, James Cardenas and wife, Teresa of Las Cruces, NM; daughter, Belinda Williams and husband Jesse of Las Cruces, NM; daughter, Laura Annette Baltzer and husband Matt of Irvine, CA; daughter, Nazareth Diaz and husband Steven of Las Cruces, NM and son, Lee Valentin Cardenas and wife Andrea of Las Cruces NM; three brothers, Dulces Nombres "Lutie" Rivera (wife, Susie) and Ricardo Rivera of Las Cruces, NM; Reynaldo "Ronnie" Rivera (wife, Becky) of Shreveport, LA; two sisters, Mary Lou Ochoa and Josie Standridge of Las Cruces, NM. She also has sixteen grandchildren, who were the pride and joy of her later years. Other survivors include numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Rose was preceded in death by parents Jesus and Josephina Rivera, brothers Jesus "Chuchi" Rivera Jr., Ruben Rivera, Raul "Luly" Rivera and Ramon "Ray" Rivera; and sister, Maria "Lupita" Christensen; granddaughter, B. Cheyenne Williams. Serving as pallbearers will be James Cardenas, Lee Valentin Cardenas, Jonathan Gerdes, Jesse Williams, Matt Baltzer and Steven Diaz. Visitation will be held at 11:00 AM with a Funeral Mass to follow at 11:30 am, Friday, January 4, 2019 at the Basilica San Albino Catholic Church in Mesilla, NM with Very Rev. Christopher Williams.
