Ron Joplin

July 23, 1946 — September 16, 2007

Ron Joplin, General / Electrical contractor and owner of Dry Gulch Enterprises, passed away at his home on Sunday, September 16, 2007. Mr. Joplin was born on July 23, 1946 in Clovis, NM. He and his parents later moved to Carlsbad, NM and he graduated from Carlsbad Sr. High in 1964. While in school he was active in Demolay, band, ROTC and the First Baptist Church's youth program. Following graduation he entered the Army Reserve and was honorably discharged from the National Guard in 1970. On July 6th, 1968 he married his wife, Nancy. Following their marriage the couple moved to Roswell, N.M. While living there he was active in the Jaycees on a local and state level. He was the joint campaign manager for the MDA campaign one year and worked on the campaign a 2nd year. He also served as "First Gentleman" to the state Jaycette organization. In 1977 Mr. Joplin and his wife moved to Las Cruces where he resided until his passing on Sunday. During his employment he worked as a plan checker and building inspector for the City of Las Cruces. He was also employed by Space Com for a number of years in the facility maintenance department. For recreation he and his wife enjoyed square dancing and danced extensively while active in that recreation. In 1993 he opened his business -- Dry Gulch Enterprises doing both general and electrical contracting. He never found a job to be too small or too large and put a lot of pride in his work. During the years he operated his business he also did work in the community of Timberon and he and his wife purchased land in the community. Just prior to his diagnosis of ALS "Lou Gehrig's" disease he completed a remodeling project for the Fountain Theatre and the Big Chair Caf
