Roland Joseph Zwiebel, DDS, age 78, of Las Cruces, NM passed away at Memorial Medical Center on January 24, 2022. Roland was born in Waterbury, CT on June 18, 1943, to William and Claire Zwiebel, to whom Roland was so grateful and shared such wonderful memories of them with others. Roland graduated from Webster High School, graduated from Fairfield University, and attained his DDS from University of Maryland. He began his dental practice in Milford, CT and served 4 generations of grateful patients……. over the course of 35 years! He served as chairman of the Milford Chapter of the American Red Cross for 3 years, was a member for 20 years, and a member of the Milford Fine Arts Council Board of Trustees. Roland volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and was a faithful member of Asylum Hill Congregational Church in Hartford, CT. He was such a supporter of his beloved UConn Women Basketball team. Dr. Z was an avid hot rod fan, especially his 1933 modified Chevy Street Rod. He enjoyed cruising and traveling in the Southwest and Europe. In 1997, he married the love of his life, Jeanne. Roland and Jeanne enjoyed living in Wallingford, CT for 18 years. They retired to Las Cruces, NM in 2015. In retirement, Dr. Z volunteered at the Lighthouse Panty, at Morningstar Methodist, where they are members. The ROMEO'S (retired old men eating out) met for lunch at various restaurants every week. This outing with the guys remained very special to him to the end. In retirement, several times a month, Roland and Jeanne enjoyed gathering with friends to eat and play cards. Roland was an excellent card player, too! Dr. Zwiebel was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Alfred and George. He is survived by his loving wife, Jeanne, 3 step children: Doreen McCarthy, Barbara Pelletier, and Paul Kuraitis. Also, he has 3 wonderful grandchildren: David, Dan, and Sabrina. Roland, also leaves behind 2 sister in laws: Barbara Zwiebel, Claudia Zwiebel, numerous nieces, nephews, and their children. Roland is survived by many friends far and wide on the East Coast and Southwest who will miss his wit, storytelling, and generosity very much. A Memorial Service will be held on February 2, 2022 at Morningstar Methodist Church at 11:00 AM.
