Roberto L Tellez

Roberto L. Tellez, 83 of Las Cruces was called to be with God on Wednesday October 19, 2011. Roberto was born July 12, 1928 in La Mesa, New Mexico to Domingo and Josefa Tellez and grew up to have a great love for and to serve his country. He entered into the U.S. Army in 1950 and was called into active combat duty in Korea where he was awarded the Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Stars, the O.C.C. Medal, the U.N. Service Medal and the Combat Infantry Medal, he returned home safely and served as a U.S. Army Reservist until 1957. Upon his return from Korea he married the love of his life Isabel B. Perea and started his family. He was preceded in death by his mother Josefa Tellez; father Domingo Tellez; brother Jose Tellez; and son-in-law Jody Robles. Roberto was a loving Husband of 59 years to Isabel and together they raised six children. He was a caring and patient father that would do everything he could for his children; Lydia (Fredy) Merlos, Danny Tellez, Bob (Kathy) Tellez, Rosemary (Manny) Martos, Elizabeth Robles, Virginia (Sammy) Franco. He was also a Grandfather to 18 Grandchildren, Great Grandfather to 8 Great Grandchildren with one more on the way. Roberto was an avid football fan and loved to follow the Mayfield Trojans, NMSU Aggies and most NFL teams and always found time to listen to or watch as many games as he could. Roberto also had a knack for shooting pool and always found time to shoot a game with his sweetheart Isabel. He had a passion for singing that he acquired later in life and enjoyed his time singing and socializing with the Las Cruces Young at Heart Choir. Above all Roberto was a devout Catholic and servant of God, he was an active parishioner at Holy Cross Church for the last 46 years and served as a faithful greeter and a Eucharistic Minister for 17 years and spent much of his time getting closer to God through prayer and meditation. He will be remembered as a humble man that always was a gentleman with a huge sense of humor that could always bring a smile to anyone's face with a joke and laughter or a good game of cards. We will miss you dearly Dad, breathe freely for we know that you are at last with God and no longer suffering. Recitation of the rosary will be Sunday October 23, 2011 at 7:30 PM at Holy Cross Church, 1327 N. Miranda, Las Cruces, N.M. 88005. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated Monday, October 24th 2011 at 1:30 PM at Holy Cross Church. Serving as pallbearers will be: Sammy Franco, Sal Iturralde, Manny Martos, Fredy Merlos Jr., Steven Robles, R. C. Tellez. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be: Marcos Delgado, Ray Padilla, Fredy Merlos Sr., Jacobo Martos, Jaime Martos, Katie Valenzuela and Isabel Vigil. PDF Printable Version
