Robert W. Cleveland Sr.

Robert (Bob) Cleveland, Sr., 74 of Las Cruces passed away on May 25, 2018 after a brief battle with cancer. Bob was born October 13, 1941 in Galveston, Texas. On August 7, 1967 he married Karen (Kitty) Cleveland in San Diego, California. Their family grew to include two daughters and a son, Karen, Debra and Robert Jr. Bob was always willing to lend a hand and enjoyed serving his parish family at St. Andrew's as a member of the garden guild and a front office volunteer. He donated many hours to El Caldito Soup Kitchen as well. Bob proudly and honorably served his country as a Master Chief in the U.S. Navy. He served four tours in Vietnam and was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal. He enlisted in 1960 and retired in 1986 from White Sands Naval Ordinance Missile Test Station as Command Master Chief. Bob was always ready with a story or a joke and his sarcastic wit and stubborn determination were his trademarks. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed many "nature walks with his rifle in hand". A member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Las Cruces, Bob could always be counted on to walk in with an expertly made loaf of pumpkin bread or whatever baked good he created in his kitchen. Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Kitty Cleveland, to whom he was deeply devoted. He is survived by his daughters Karen Balding and Debra Milstead and son Robert Cleveland, Jr., numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as his special companion Joan McClure-Post, who was by his side throughout his final days. A memorial service will be celebrated at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 518 N. Alameda Blvd., Las Cruces on Friday, June 15, 2018 at 1:00pm.
