Robert Truitt

March 30, 1950 — December 21, 2020

Robert Harrold Truitt It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Truitt on December 21, 2020. Robert was born on March 30, 1950, in Crane, Texas. He was the son of Norman and Dorothy Truitt. Robert graduated from Artesia High School in 1968 and from NMSU in 1972 and went on to complete his Master's in Education. He taught math and science in Artesia from 1975 until 1988 and Library, Science and Computer Science in Hatch from 1990 until he retired in 2010 with 35 years in education. Robert enjoyed electronics and technology and built and repaired computers for many years. He was a member of the Mesilla Valley Radio Club KE5OFK, and served in several offices. He loved to help and talk with other ham operators and assist them in any way possible. Robert was a square dancer and caller and made many friends at the local, state and national level throughout the years. At the time of his death, he was president of the two Las Cruces clubs; Circle 8's and Crossfires, the New Mexico SW district and at the state level. He was very saddened at not being able to dance in recent months because of the pandemic. Robert was often seen working in his pecan orchard driving his tractor and mowers, usually with a smile on his face. Rob and Susan enjoyed travelling and taking their 5th wheel to explore new areas. He never met a stranger and would often be seen visiting with other travelers in RV parks. He especially enjoyed visiting his and Susan's children and grandchildren. Rob attended the Truitt family reunion for many years and strived to keep the family history and values alive for future generations. Robert is survived by his wife, Susan of the family home and brother, David of Midland. Also mourning his loss are his daughter Liz, and sons Robby and Justin (Tammi), stepdaughters, Audrey (Paul), Karen (Paul) and Tracy (Brian), 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his stepdaughter, Amy Baylie. Rob will be deeply missed by all that knew him, but we know that he is in a better place. No public services are planned. Donations in Robert's name may be made to your favorite charity.
