Rebecca R. Barrett

Rebecca Fields Barrett, 64, slipped quietly in to the arms of her Master Jesus when her loving heart failed, on Saturday, May 15th 2012 at her home in Las Cruces, New Mexico. She was born in Deerfield, Illinois on October 9, 1947 to Bill R. and Doris Fields and is predeceased by her father and her husband, Jack Barrett. "Becky" is survived by her mother, Doris Thompson Fields of Quitman, Texas; one sister, Roberta Fields Luedke and Russ of Houston, TX; her brother, Billy Raymond Fields, Jr. and Vada of Quitman, TX; Daughters: Paula Kay Barrett of Huntsville, Ala; and Johnna Pat Barrett of Oklahoma City; one son, David Barrett and Cindy of Dubuque, Iowa; Granddaughters: Amanda Schulz and Justen; Crystal Sides and Tony; Grandson, Noah Barrett, and her very special best friend, Tim McKellar along with all of his wonderful children and grandchildren that she loved as her own. Because her father was an officer in the U.S. Air force, she had the privilege of traveling world wide as a child and especially loved the years spent in Italy. After her father's retirement, the family moved to West Virginia where Becky graduated high school. The family then moved to Oklahoma City where she worked in the home building industry for Modern Building and as a homebuilder for Bill Fields Building Company. After she married Jack Barrett, they spent 6-years in the Azores Islands and 9-years on Okinawa with the U.S Government, where she excelled as a Translator and Housing Specialist. On returning to the U.S., She and Jack retired in Florida where she practiced massage therapy and was a volunteer chef in a homeless shelter. After his death, Becky moved to Mineola, TX to be near her Mother where she continued to share her many creative gifts and talents in marketing and public relations, healing therapies, culinary arts and love of animals. Her daily companions, "Smoke," "Lambchop" and most recently, "Jazzie" were constant joys in her life. She returned to work for the U.S Government in 2009 as an Engineering Technician at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico, where she was employed until her death. Becky never met a stranger and will be terribly missed by her many friends all over the world; especially by her surviving 26 first cousins who will always remember the special spice and aroma her presence added to every Thompson family gathering. There will be a farewell service on Saturday, May 19th at 2:00 PM at the Getz Funeral Home in Las Cruces, New Mexico and a memorial service at Smith Kernke Funeral Home in Oklahoma City on Saturday, June 2, 2012.
