Raymundo Martinez Mendes

December 31, 1967 — September 28, 2023

Raymundo Mendes, also known as Mundo or Pupdawg, entered into eternal rest on September 28, 2023. He was 55 at the time of his death. Mundo was born to Inez Mendes and Rose Ann Martinez on December 31, 1967 in El Paso, Texas. He lost his mother, Rose Ann, when he was 11 months old and was raised by his second mother, Lupe Mendes. He had a strong bond with his younger brother, Jaime Mendes, even though in their early years Mundo was known to "hide" Jaime in the laundry hamper. He was raised in Las Cruces, NM and played football for Mayfield High School. After graduating, Mundo joined the Army and was stationed in Germany during his time in service. He was honorably discharged from the Army after 2.5 years of service and moved back to Las Cruces, NM. He met his future wife, Nancy Mendes, at the Southern New Mexico State Fair in October of 1989. They married for the first time in March of 1990. They had two beautiful daughters, Stephanie and Haley Mendes. He worked for the City of Las Cruces for 13 years in the streets department while also attending New Mexico State University. He later obtained an associate degree in business administration from NMSU. Mundo and his girls relocated to Memphis, TN in 2000, where he worked as an Environmental Safety & Quality Manager. After the loss of his mother, Lupe, he returned to Las Cruces, NM to be a caregiver for his father, Inez. Mundo enjoyed providing colorful commentary on many Texas Long Horn and Dallas Cowboys football games. He enjoyed engaging in political debate, if not just to humor himself in how passionate some of his loved ones would get. He was always willing to help others in need. He was warm and welcoming to the numerous friends his daughters brought home, from allowing them to tease him to making sure everyone was fed and comfortable. Inez and Lupe Mendes and Rose Ann Martinez precede Mundo in death along with numerous cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents. He is survived by his daughters Stephanie and Haley (Jordon) Mendes, brother Jaime (Kim) Mendes, nieces and nephews Jamie and Jordyn Mendes, Steven and Christopher Calderazzo, and Shelby (Dawson) McCreary, his ex-wife Nancy Mendes, and his caregiver and friend Lisa Rodriguez. He is also survived by numerous cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends. A viewing will be held at Getz Funeral Home on October 10th, 2023, at 9:30am with services to follow at 10am. Inurnment will be held at 10:00 am on October 20, 2023, at St. Genevieve's.
