Raymond Lucero

January 19, 1932 — April 14, 2023

Raymond C. Lucero, fondly known to his friends as "Shorty," entered eternal life on Friday, April 14th, 2023. He was born January 19th, 1932 in Las Cruces, NM to Benjamin and Genevieve Lucero. Raymond was a lifelong member of St. Genevieve's Catholic Church and was deeply devoted to his faith. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, first joining in 1964. He later joined the St. Genevieve's Council 13969 in 2005. He served honorably in the US Air Force from February, 1948 to January, 1951, during the Korean War. After his service in the US Air Force, Raymond worked at White Sands Missile Range as a Pipefitter for many years until his retirement. He enjoyed sharing stories with his family of his time in Japan. He had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed making his family laugh. His family often shares funny stories of time spent with him when they gather together. He is survived by his children Ray Anthony Lucero and wife Sue Ann of Las Cruces, Johnny Lucero and wife Pearl of Albuquerque, NM, Terri Arellano and husband Juan of Las Cruces, Rita Schulick and husband Jerod of El Paso, TX, and Joseph Lucero and wife Tiffany of Rio Rancho, NM. He is also survived by his grandchildren Joral Lucero (Ann Marie), Janelle McCarthy (Luke), Monica Renteria (Aleksandr), David Arellano (Marty), Jacob Arellano, Alexander Lucero and Alexxus Lucero. He was also blessed with three great-grandchildren, Isis Arellano, Casey McCarthy and Jameson Arellano. Also surviving him is his sister Ethel Mae Foxx of La Grange, KY. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years Frances N. Lucero, both parents, and brothers Benjamin (Lucky) Lucero and Tony Lucero. Raymond will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 27th, 2023 at St. Genevieve's Catholic Church. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 am, rosary at 10:30 am and mass at 11:00 am with the burial to follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery. The honor of being a pallbearer and honorary pallbearer goes to his grandchildren.
