Raymond Lawrence Johnson

Raymond Lawrence Johnson, of Las Cruces, NM died Saturday, November 7, 2009 at Mesilla Valley Hospice, La Posada surrounded by his family. He was born January 25, 1932 in Las Cruces, NM to Roy and Cora Johnson. He served his country honorably in the US Army, and retired from Mountain Bell Telephone Co. as a supervisor. A life long area resident, he was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed camping, Jeeping and RV'ing. Raymond was also an avid traveler and was a member of the Mesilla Valley Nomads RV Club. He raced for many years at Mesilla Valley Raceway stock car track which he helped build. His zest for life was unmatched, he will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He is preceeded in death by his brother Arthur Johnson and his parents Roy and Cora Johnson. He is survived by his companion of many years, Patricia Betts; one daughter, Raylene Barton and her husband Bill of Katy, TX; two brothers, Lowell Johnson and wife Pat of Las Cruces, NM and Truman Johnson and wife Sandra of Santa Fe, NM. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Ryan Barton and wife Tiffany and Stacey Jones and husband Curtis, and two great grandchildren, Rebecca and Nathan Barton all of Katy, TX.
