Petra Ramos

Petra C. Ramos December 22, 1932 – April 2, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Petra C. Ramos, age 92, who passed away peacefully on April 2, 2025, in Las Cruces, New Mexico, where she had lived for 48 years. Petra was born on December 22, 1932, in Durango, Mexico, to a hardworking and loving family.

Petra was a devoted wife to her late husband, Guadalupe Ramos, who passed away in 1996. Together, they raised a beautiful family, and Petra’s legacy lives on through their children: Julia Ramirez (Ortiz), Francisco Ortiz, Carlota Ortiz, Jesus Ortiz, Mary Ramos, Arturo “Michael” Ramos, Sergio Ramos, and Heriberto “Eddie” Ramos.

Growing up on a farm, Petra learned the values of hard work, resourcefulness, and perseverance from a young age. She helped her mother with tasks like making cheese, butter, buttermilk, and cottage cheese from fresh cow’s milk. Petra also helped preserve vegetables and meat, drying them to ensure her family could survive through all seasons. She was a woman who knew how to make the most of what was available, providing for her family with love and ingenuity.

Petra was not only a skilled homemaker but also a warm and nurturing mother. While she never worked outside the home, she was always able to stretch her husband’s salary and create a loving, stable home for her children. Family meals, often prepared with great care, were a time for her family to come together and share stories and laughter. Music was a big part of Petra’s life, and she loved to cook big meals, making sure everyone had enough to eat and feel loved.

Petra’s kindness, wisdom, and resilience will always be remembered by her children, grandchildren, and all who knew her. She will be greatly missed but never forgotten.

Services are scheduled with a visitation at 5:00 pm followed by rosary at 7:00 pm on Thursday April 11, 2025 at Getz Funeral Home.  Prayer Vigil will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday April 12, 2025 at Getz Funeral Home. Burial to follow on Monday, April 14, 2025 at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens at 12:00 pm.
