Mr. Pablo M. Acevez, 84, went home to be with our Lord in Heaven, Wednesday, May 13, 2009 peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family in Las Cruces, NM. He was born December 15, 1924 in Anthony, NM, to Pablo C. Sr. and Mercedes Acevez. Pablo was born the eldest son of a family of eight, and during the depression era he was forced to quit school and start working in the area farms where he learned his strong work ethics. He became the family patriarch after the death of his parents, and with the help of his older sisters, they worked to provide for their younger brothers and sisters. He served his country honorably during the Korean War, and served overseas in Germany. He received the commendation Medal of Occupation (Germany). He was a retired Heavy Equipment Mechanic at White Sands Missile Range, NM. He had a great love for spending time with family and friends especially with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed dancing, camping, and loved to travel. Pablo is survived by his loving wife, Margaret, of sixty-one years; one son Ernest Acevez of Las Cruces; three daughters, Beatrice (Bea) Melendrez and husband Alfred of Las Cruces; Bernice Medrano and husband Carlos of Albuquerque; Dora Padilla and husband Steve of Las Cruces. Two brothers; Guillermo and wife Genevieve of Las Cruces; Reymundo and wife Mary of Westminster, CA; two sisters: Candelaria Aceves and Guadalupe A. Sanchez both of Las Cruces. Also surviving are grandchildren Valerie White and husband Loring; Diane Melendrez and Sam Cabrera; Carlos J. Medrano and wife Jessica; Gabriel Medrano; Sebastian Medrano; Stephanie Padilla; Lisa Zapien; and Eric Padilla. Five great grandchildren also survive, Meagan and Madeline Crouse; Kelley and Seth White and Natalie Medrano. He was preceded in death by his sister Amalia; and brothers, Daniel and Valentine. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM on Sunday, May 17, 2009 at Getz Funeral Home Chapel where the Prayer Vigil will follow at 7 PM. The Funeral Liturgy will be at 10 AM on Monday, May 18, 2009 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral, 1240 S. Espina. The Rite of Committal and burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Officiating will be Fr. Don Adamski. Serving as pallbearers will be Carlos J. Medrano, Gabriel Medrano, Sebastian Medrano, Ray Acevez, Ricky Sanchez and Benjamin Aceves. Honorary pallbearers are Steve Padilla, Carlos S. Medrano and Alfred Melendrez. PDF Printable Version
