Ophelia Duran

March 5, 1921 — March 17, 2007

Ophelia Duran, 86 of Derry, NM died peacefully at home surrounded by family on Saturday, March 17, 2007. Ophelia was born March 5, 1921 in Ft. Hancock, Texas to Miguel and Aleja Lozano. A farming wife, she and her husband, Efrain owned and operated Duran and Sons Farms. She was a member of the Catholic Church and enjoyed quilting. All her loving family and those who knew her will miss her. Ophelia is survived by two daughters, Terrie Armendariz and her husband Manuel of Las Cruces, NM; and Vicky Duran also of Las Cruces. Two sons, Henry Duran and his wife Dora of Garfield, NM, Carl Duran of Derry, NM and one stepdaughter, Lillian Molina of Torrance, CA. She has three surviving brothers, Mike Lozano of Hurley, NM; Lupe Lozano of Socorro, NM and Gabriel Lozano of Albuquerque, NM. Also surviving Ophelia are 7 grandchildren, Amanda Vega and husband Mike; Miguel Gonzalez; Alysia Duran and companion Eric Trujillo; Erin Duran; Efren Duran; Henry Duran, Jr; Vanessa Duran; step grandchildren, Richard Garcia; Michelle Chavez; Melissa Botchen; Memorie Armendariz; and Maurice Armendariz. Six great grandchildren survive Ophelia as well, Elyja Gonzalez; Makayla Gonzalez; Lauryn Duran; Derek Vega; Isaiah Vega and Joshua Vega. 13 step grandchildren and one step great great grandchild. Also survive her. She was preceded in death by her husband Efrain Duran in 1997, one brother, Frank Lozano and one sister, Julia Medina. A Prayer Service will be at 4:00 PM on Friday, March 23, 2007 at Getz Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Bob Ortega officiating. The Rosary will follow at 7:00 PM at San Isidro Catholic Church in Garfield. The Funeral Liturgy will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 24, 2007 at San Isidro Catholic Church. Officiating will be Fr. Enrique Lopez Escalera. The Rite of Committal and burial will follow at the Garfield Cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to her husband Efrain. Serving, as pallbearers will be Miguel Gonzalez, Efren Duran, Henry Duran Jr, Mike Vega, Richard Garcia, and Maurice Armendariz. PDF Printable Version
