Ofelia Legarreta

Ofelia Legarreta, age 78, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 27th. She died peacefully at her home in Las Cruces, NM surrounded by her family. She was born to Crisoforo and Francisca Leyva, Sr. on April 22, 1933. She grew up on Hayner's Ranch in Rincon, NM. She graduated from Hatch Valley High School in 1953. She married Lalo Legarreta on August 18, 1957 in a double wedding ceremony sharing the day with her beloved sister, Frances. Lalo and Ofelia celebrated their 54th anniversary last August. She worked for First National Bank of DAC for almost 30 years. She loved her job and especially enjoyed helping her Senior Citizen customers. She was a wonderful example of a loving, hard-working and Godly mother to her three daughters, Yolanda, Elizabeth and Sylvia. She loved her grandkids, Lysa Marie, Jeremy, Jillian, Jordan, Marisa and Chris and great grandkids, Anthony and Christian. She is survived by her husband, Lalo, daughters Yolanda Hernandez and husband Fernando of Phoenix, AZ, Lisa Martinez and husband Ramy of Las Cruces, NM and Sylvia Lunsford and her husband George of Las Cruces, NM, brother Richard Leyva of Hatch, NM, Johnny Leyva of Memphis, TN and Frances Camargo of La Puente, CA. Ofelia was preceded in death by her parents, Crisoforo Leyva, Sr., Francisca Leyva and her brother Chris Leyva Jr. A visitation will be held from 9:00-10:00 am on Wednesday, February 29th at Las Cruces 1st Assembly of God Church, 5605 Bataan Memorial West. A funeral service will immediately follow at 10:00 a.m. with Senior Pastor, David Vistine officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Jeremy Pino, Jordan Lunsford, Artie Leyva, Manuel Camargo, Hector Legarreta, Jr. and Donald Legarreta. Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Leyva, Johnny Leyva, Ruperto Legarreta, Hector Legarreta Sr. , Fernando Hernandez, Ramy Martinez, and George Lunsford.
