Netty Z. Fisher, wife, mother, grandmother and friend passed away on May 13, 2011, at Mountain View Regional Medical Center. She was born in Huntsville, KY on December 25, 1930 to Jake and Minnie Mefford. Netty spent the early years of her life in the hills of Kentucky. She met and married Calvin Fisher in 1957 and they began their life journey together. There were many moves throughout the southwest and finally settling in Las Cruces in 1967. Netty worked at Sears on the downtown mall for 16 years where she was the telephone sales supervisor. She made many long and lasting friendships while working there. In 1979 Netty took a leave of absence from her job to care for her grandsons Jason and Joey. After several months she decided not to return to work but to stay at home where she was needed most. Netty loved her back yard and beautiful flowers. She spent hours on her patio enjoying the beauty around her. You could always find her with a drink in her hand and a joke or story to tell anyone that would listen. Netty took up golf late in life, and loved it. Her long ball was not always on mark but she was quite the putter. We are not sure if she took up golf for the fun or just to aggravate her husband on the course. They played in many tournaments and always enjoyed their time together on the course. Netty also played golf with a group of women who became known as "The ladies of the evening". You can be sure it was always a good time filled with lots of laughter. Netty is survived by her husband of 53 years, Calvin; Daughter Sharyn (Walter) Brown of Las Cruces; Son Wesley Fisher of Orogrande, NM. Grandchildren, Steve (Jana) Brown of Mocksville, NC, Jason (Hayley) Buchanan of San Diego, CA, Joeseph Buchanan of Phoenix, AZ. Great grandchildren, Jayden and Chase Buchanan of San Diego, Sister Elsie McVicker of Charlestown, IN., and twin sister Betty Groves of Owensboro, KY. She was preceded in death by her parents Jake and Minnie Mefford, several brothers and sister, her son Terry Buchanan and great granddaughter Cari Joyce Brown. She will be missed by all who know and loved her. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 19, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Getz Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Frank Zamora officiating.
