John 15:13 "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his brother." Mike Knowlton entered Heaven, on Wednesday, December 20th. Mike was a servant. He gave his life for his family and country. Born May 17, 1961, in Rochester, New York, he entered the Marines at age nineteen. He served our country in many arenas including: Iraq (two tours), Kuwait, Liberia, and the Philippines, and traveled to at least nineteen other countries. As a Marine, Mike was often the first on the field of battle, and in his heart until the end; he had the will of a man who would lay down his life for others. As a soldier, a friend, an employee, as a husband, a father, and a grandfather, he was self-sacrificing. He had strong feelings about faithfulness to family and country and loved to express them. His quick wit, courage, strength, and kindness were hallmarks of his personality, and will be remembered by the many lives he touched. He was in the Army reserves and recently joined the police force at White Sands Missile Range, passing the physical portion at the top of his class with many much younger cadets. He was an avid outdoorsman and master chef who loved sharing nature and good food with others. After being ill for several weeks, he died from Leukemia at Providence Hospital in El Paso. His survivors remain: Donna, his wife; parents, John Knowlton and Mary Richards; his children, Josh, Christine, and Jennifer; grandchildren, Shaan, Glen, and Quinn; his brother, John, and sisters, Helen and Katie.
