Michael H. Mason
26 June 1951 - 6 December 2023
Michael H. Mason, age 72, died on 6 December 2023 at his home in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Although his passing was unexpected, and the exact cause unknown, he died suddenly and peacefully.
Mike, as he was known to his family and friends, was born at the old Beaumont Hospital, in El Paso, Texas, on 26 June 1951. During his youth, he was a US Air Force dependant. He lived with his family in Texas, New Mexico, New York, Massachusetts, Florida, Okinawa, Montana, and Kentucky.
Mike earned a bachelor’s degree in Economics, followed by a master's degree in business administration, from the University of Kentucky in Lexington. After graduating from college, he managed a movie theater complex in Greensboro, North Carolina for about a year. During the mid-1970’s Mike began working at White Sands Missile Range (WSMR).
During his 30 years as a US Army civil service employee, Mike worked for several organizations at WSMR in areas of logistics, supply, and facilities management. He was especially proud of being involved in coordinating shipments of improvised explosive jamming devices to our military troops serving in the gulf war regions. If they saved even one person’s life, he felt his hard work was well worth the effort.
Throughout his life, Mike maintained a keen interest in military history and world affairs. He also enjoyed listing to “Baby-Boomer” rock and roll music, exploring a wide variety of topics on the internet, spending time with his family, and visiting new and different places. After retiring from work, Mike and his wife, Jane, vacationed in more than a dozen foreign countries and countless places in the United States. In addition to being a loving husband, Mike and Jane were best friends during their 38 years of marriage.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents Howard Lee Mason and Frances Adella Jerominek-Mason. He is survived by his wife, Jane Bouler-Mason of Las Cruces; brother, Robert J. Mason (Denise) of Lexington, Kentucky; sister, Marsha A. Horne of Fayetteville, North Carolina; and numerous other family members.
Per his request, no funeral services are planned.
Mrs. Mason would like to extend her deepest gratitude to the 911 dispatcher, the Las Cruces Fire Department, and the Las Cruces Police Department for their assistance during this time of crisis.
