Longtime Las Cruces resident, Mary Jackson, died on Saturday, March 15, 2008 after facing challenging heart problems. Born in Kansas City, Kansas she spent her childhood there, later moving to the east coast where she met and married her husband of 57 years, William Jackson. Together they traveled and lived both in the US and internationally throughout his military career. Mary was known for her elegance, great conversation, and her willingness to accept the many challenges she faced with grace and fighting spirit. She loved to read and keep pace with Local, state, and national politics. Her distinguished 15-year retailing career in New York City on 5th Avenue during the era of great designers spawned her love of fashion and all things related. After moving to Las Cruces, she worked as a Senior Buyer for New Mexico State University where she later retired. Surviving are her husband, William; one brother Alfred Daley of Atlanta; three sisters, Rebecca Addison of Las Cruces, New Mexico; Dorothy Dale of Kansas City, Missouri; Erma Riding and her husband Julian of Kansas City, Kansas; three sisters-in-law, Wanda Jackson of Denver, Colorado; Gwen Horton and her husband Beck of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Janette Walker of Minneapolis, Minnesota; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends Mary's husband request that any kindness be donated to the American Cancer Society.
