Mary A. Hernandez

Mary A. Hernandez, lovingly called "OMA", 80, of Las Cruces, went to be with the Lord on Friday, September 5, 2008 at Mesilla Valley Hospice, La Posada. Mary was born December 9, 1927 in Roswell, New Mexico and was a 22 year resident of Las Cruces. Mary was blessed and eager to serve the Lord and prophecy his word to all those who would lend an ear. Mary was humble of heart and carried her love for the Lord into prisons, orphanages, and remote and desolate areas of Mexico. Her testimony brought many to the lord and her thoughtful nature touched all those around her. Mary was a dedicated servant, but also had many qualities. She loved to crotchet, knit, cook, and was an avid cake decorator. Mary was also extremely blessed to be united with a supportive husband of 59 years, Ben Hernandez Sr., also a servant of the Lord. She was given the opportunity to be a mother to 4 children: Joanna Guerrin of Trenton, Mo; Diane Diaz of Las Cruces, NM; Johnny Hernandez of Deming, NM; and Ben Hernandez Jr. of Rio Rancho, NM, all whom she raised lovingly. Along life's journey Mary attained a caring daughter in law, Rhonda Hernandez of Rio Rancho, NM; 11 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and 3 great great-grandchildren. Mary has gone to be reunited with her mother, Lola Sanchez Mendoza: sister, Lucy Chavez; and her great-granddaughter Caitlyn-Ravae Diaz. As Mary's spirit is carried to heaven by angels, we will gather in remembrance on Monday, September 8, 2008 at Getz Funeral Home Chapel from 5 to 7 PM, after which we will thank the Lord with praise for giving us life through his humble servant, led by her faithful companion of service, Pastor Gabriel Solis of the Pentecostal Church of God. Mary will be carried to rest at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery by her grandchildren Tuesday, September 8, 2008 at 10 AM. All who knew Mary will greatly miss her but will anxiously await our opportunity to re-unite with her.
