Marilou Cherry (McClelland) Duderstadt passed away on Sunday, June 13, 2021, at the age of 90, in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Marilou was born on May 25, 1931, in Kansas City, KS, the sixth of eight children of Roland H. and Mary (Cherry) McClelland. Marilou attended Rosedale High School, Kansas City, KS, graduating 1948. On December 29, 1950, Marilou married Edward Duderstadt in Olathe, KS, just prior to his induction into the U.S. Army. She later joined him at Ft. Bliss, TX and after his graduation from the Officer Candidate School there, they spent three years in New Jersey where he was stationed. She worked for the University of Missouri, Rolla while her husband was studying there. They moved to Fairfield, OH in 1959 where they lived for the next 36 years. While living in Ohio, they together raised two children, a daughter Elizabeth Angstadt, who now lives in Dallas, TX, and a son Carl, now living in Prescott, AZ They moved to Las Cruces, NM in1995 Marilou earned an Associate Degree in Nursing from Hamilton, OH Branch of Miami University, a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Miami University, Oxford, OH and a Master of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Cincinnati. She was a Registered Nurse and worked for Mercy Hospital in Hamilton and Fairfield, OH and as an Occupational Health Nurse for Hamilton Foundry and for Champion International. Marilou was elected to Fairfield (OH) City Council and served two terms as Councilperson representing Fairfield's Fourth Ward. She believed in serving others and spent many years serving on community boards and committees. She was most proud of her eight years on the Butler County Ohio Mental Health Board, serving as its President for one year. She was Charter President of the Fairfield Lioness Club, which she helped to organize. After moving to New Mexico, she served one term as Health Policy Commissioner for the state of New Mexico. Marilou enjoyed travelling having visited the Holy Land, Spain, Morocco and Russia. She also loved the sights of Las Cruces and the Southwest. She appreciated all forms of artwork and loved listening to music. It gave her much joy to visit with her children and grandchildren. Marilou was a great communicator with the gift of gab. She never shied away from challenges, always tenacious in her endeavors. In addition to her children, she leaves her husband of 70 years, Edward, two grandchildren, Stephanie Angstadt and husband Chris, David Angstadt and wife Angelica and a great grandson, Luka Angstadt of Dallas, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents, her six brothers, Roland, Jr., Franklin, Merwin, Marvin, James and Frederick, and her sister Alice Dunn. Visitation will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 18 at Getz Funeral Home. Funeral services will take place at 3:00 p.m. Interment will be at Mount Moriah Cemetery, Kansas City, MO.
