Mabel H. Banegas

October 2, 1927 — January 8, 2012

Mabel Hovey Banegas, of Las Cruces, passed away on January 8th, 2012. She was born on October 2nd, 1927, in Salem, New Mexico to Henry Hovey and Maria Medina. She was a retired bookkeeper. Mabel was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Genevieve's Church, specializing in serving the homebound. She served as Dona Ana County Deputy Clerk under three different County Clerks. Mabel is a past President of Holy Cross School, was very active in school and Church activities. She was a Red Cross Volunteer for many years. Her special project was the Dona Ana Shelter Home for the aged, also participated in the Summer Free Swim Program. She was instrumental in taking several teens from the neighborhood to learn CPR. Mabel was a member of the El Paso Cactus Club, serving as Secretary. Mabel is survived by her children: Yvonne Banegas, George Fred Banegas and wife Jennifer, John Banegas and wife Cecilia, Paul Banegas and wife Catherine, Marcella Banegas, eight loving grandchildren: Nicole, Alexandra, Eric, Trinity, Travis, Quinton, Hunter, Lauryn and five great grandchildren: Marshall, Joaquin, Kylie, Adayna, and Adam Jr.. Two sisters Emma Siminski and Erlinda Casados. Mabel was preceded in death by her husband: George A. Banegas, Son: Gregory A. Banegas, Brother: Henry Hovey, Sisters: Velma Hovey and Lillie Hovey. She is also survived by many relatives and friends. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 from 5-7pm at Getz Funeral Home with a Prayer Vigil at 7pm. The Funeral mass will be on Thursday January 12, 2012 at 10am at St. Genevieve's Catholic Church with Fr. Ray Flores as celebrant. Rite of committal and burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. PDF Printable Version
