It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our dearly beloved husband, son, uncle and brother, Lyonel Ronald Lindbeck, 59, on July 18, 2008 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was born on October 20, 1948, in Las Cruces, New Mexico. He is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Dolores Telles Lindbeck, his devoted mother, Marinell Lindbeck, his brother, Lloyd and his sisters, Marita, Lavonne, Ladeen, Linda and Marlene. He is also survived by numerous nephews, cousins, mother-in-law, Josie Telles, sisters/brothers-in-laws. He was preceded in death by his father, Laurel Lindbeck and his older brothers, Lonnie Lindbeck and Lauren Lindbeck. He had lived in Colorado Springs since he retired from the United States Air Force after nearly 30 years of a highly successful, decorated, meritorious career as an Officer, achieving the rank of Colonel. He attended local schools and New Mexico State University. Thereafter he received his Masters Degree from George Washington University in Management Information Systems. He also attended Old Dominion University in Virginia and American University. He graduated from Air Command and Staff in Montgomery, Alabama in the top 10 graduates. He served honorably during the Vietnam War, first in Italy and then in the Far East as part of a crew flying reconnaissance over dangerous enemy territory. He was stationed at most major commands such as CENTCOM during the Middle East conflict. He received many Meritorious Awards for his outstanding, illustrious and dedicated service. His last tour of duty was at SPACECOM in Colorado Springs where he honorably retired. He served his country with dedication, integrity and great sense of duty. He was very conscientious, dedicated to his career, many times under extremely stressful conditions required of his rank and position. Frequently his dedication took him beyond his call of duty. He was always highly regarded by those who knew him and those who served under his command. He always treated them with integrity, fairness and respect. He was always ready to undertake whatever it took to meet his required assignments. He enjoyed traveling and learning of other cultures and countries. He toured Europe extensively, the Middle East, the Far East, Japan, Germany and South Korea. His favorite tour of duty was the Far East. He enjoyed running in many marathon competitions and keeping in top physical condition. His last was the Marine Marathon in Washington, DC and the Pike's Peak Marathon. He was an avid car collector. He enjoyed refurbishing and restoring them to their original condition. His love of family and country was steadfast. He will always be fondly remembered by his family, friends and co-workers for his generosity, self-reliance, adventuresome personality and witty sense of humor. He will be highly missed by every one who loved him and knew him. He was truly an exceptional man, and a tribute to his loving mother, Marinell. Cremation has taken place and Graveside Services will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 21, 2008 at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Full Military Honors will be accorded by the Holloman Air Force Base Steel Talons Honor Guard. We invite all veterans in the area to please come and pay their respects to one of their own, who, like them, gave so much to this country and sacrificed so much in our defense.
