Luis Duran Galaz Jr.

It is with great sorrow that the family of Luis Galaz Jr announce his passing into eternal life on 15 Dec 2024 at the age of 67 at Mesilla Valley Hospice.

 He was born on 17 April 1957 to Luis T. and Consuelo D. Galaz who have both preceded him in death. He was a native and lifelong resident of Las Cruces.

Luis Jr was a man of few words, he was strong willed and lived a quiet and simple life. His greatest pleasure was spending time with his nieces and nephews as well as his great nieces and nephews. He was an inspiration to all of them and their lives were greatly enriched as a result. He enjoyed watching all sports but his passion was football. He was a fan of the Las Cruces Bulldogs, the High School Team which he graduated from. He loved the Washington Redskins although he was not a fan of the name change to the Commanders. 

 His career was working in Environmental Services at Memorial General Hospital for greater than 20 years. During his residency at Sierra Nursing Home, Luis Jr ran for and was elected to the office of Resident President representing all residents on any concerns and issues. Luis Jr will be forever loved, forever missed, and forever in our hearts. 

Luis Jr was preceded in death by a sister, Maria Luisa Galaz (Mary Lou). His survivors include two sisters, Teresa Ramos Henderson and spouse Tim of Las Cruces and Emma Alonzo and spouse Fernando of Colorado Springs as well as a brother Ruben Galaz and spouse Silvia of San Miguel. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins.

 All services will take place on Monday, December 30, 2024 beginning with Family viewing at Getz Funeral Home located at 1410 E. Bowman Ave from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. Rosary will follow from 1:30 PM to 2:PM at St Genevieve Catholic Church located at 100 S. Espina followed by Funeral Mass from 2:00 PM to 2:45 PM.

Burial will take place from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Masonic Cemetery located at 760 S. Compress Rd.

 Pallbearers include Ruben Galaz, Jose Luis Ramos, Romeo Redd, Lupe Almaguer, Rudy Torres and Arthur Galaz Lara. Family and friends gathering will take place at 4:00 PM at St Genevieve Parish Hall, 1025 E. Las Cruces Ave.

 The family would like to give heart-felt thanks to the staff of Mesilla Valley Hospice.
