Louis Clifton Bookout

June 25, 1922 — June 3, 2005

Louis Clifton "CLIFF" Bookout, 82, a longtime resident of Mimbres, NM passed away Friday, June 3, 2005 at Casa Del Sol in Las Cruces, NM. He was born June 25, 1922 in Tularosa, NM. He was a Machinist Mate Third Class in the Navy (Seebees), landing in Normandy in WWII. Cliff worked as Foreman on the Ponderosa Ranch for may years and is remembered for his roping and trick riding abilities on his late horse "Sugar". He retired from Kennecott Copper Corp. where he worked as an electrician. In his earlier years he enjoyed collecting artifacts and natural gems. He considered himself a "pebble pup". He was an accomplished fisherman and outdoorsman as well as a metal craft artisan; welding being his main hobby. He is survived by two daughters, Pat Lish of Las Cruces, NM and Elaine Livermore of Sierra Madre, CA. He has five grandchildren and two great grandsons. Funeral Services will be held at 1 PM on Monday, June 13, 2005 at Ft. Bayard National Cemetery, Ft. Bayard, NM with Ben Wright officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather afterwards at the Wrights residence, 84 Palomino Trail in Mimbres.
