Lorenzo Delgado, 82, of Las Cruces died Wednesday, January 9, 2008. He was born on July 8, 1925 in Picacho, New Mexico, to Florencio and Fernanda Delgado. Lorenzo honorably served his country, in the United States Army, during WWII. As one of the first troops to invade Japan, he earned a Meritorius Unit Award, Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal (Japan), as well as the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal. He enjoyed many things in life such as working in his garden, making homemade wine, hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed listening to his "Happy Music," Old Spanish music. Lorenzo retired from the Las Cruces Public Schools. After retirement he spent his time with his "favorite daughter" his Chihuahua as well as making many friends at the McDonalds inside Wal-Mart. Lorenzo is survived by his son, Lorenzo Delgado Jr., of Picacho, NM, four daughters, Anita frietze, Cecelia Uranga and husband Robert, Erlinda Martinez, Vickie Delgado, all of Las Cruces, NM, three brothers, Jesus Delgado, of Las Cruces, NM, Benjamin Delgado, of Las Cruces, NM, Luis Delgado, of Tortugas, NM, one sister, Lupe Clark, of Las Cruces, NM, 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Mary Delgado, two sons, Ramon and Ernesto Delgado. A Visitation for Lorenzo will be held at Getz Funeral Home, on Friday, January 18, 2008, at 5 to 7 P.M. where a Prayer Vigil will follow at 7P.M. The Funeral Liturgy will be held at 10 A.M. on Saturday, January 19, 2008, at Our Lady Of Purification Catholic Church 5525 Cristo Rey Dona Ana, NM 88032, with Fr. Miguel Macay Officiating.
