Lilyan Johnson

December 4, 1937 — May 14, 2021

Lilyan Winifred Johnson (Windy) Miller born December 4, 1938 in Dyersburg, Tennessee was a lifelong resident of Mesilla and the Mesilla Valley passed away in her family home on Friday, May 14th, 2021. The daughter of Harry and Mary Hahs Miller. Windy was a graduate of Las Cruces High School where she was active with the high school swim team, along with many other clubs and organizations, including the local square dance horse club. It is also where she met the true love of her life, Arthur Johnson to whom she's been married to for 65 years. She was founder of the Pintos 4-H club and served as club leader for many years, along with FFA and band mom to her boys. Her passion for history, arrowhead hunting, good old western nostalgia and movies were profound. Windy also found extreme joy spending time with her longtime friend, Oleta Salopek, fishing at Elephant Butte. She was a true sage and holder of family "witty humor", knowledge and wisdom. Diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1970s Windy did not let this illness stop her and/or slow her down. She embraced her passion for "natural art" and love of nature lead her to oil painting of many beautiful mesa scenes, which came directly from the years of ranching with cattle, horses, and the scenery that she and her husband Arthur so loved. Windy is survived by husband Arthur G. Johnson of the family home in Mesilla Park. Sons Bill (Lisa) of Carlsbad, NM; Larry (Glenda) Hobbs, NM and Art (Elizabeth) Johnson of Las Cruces, NM. Grandchildren: Amanda Spearman; Ty Johnson, Justin Johnson, Michael Johnson; Randi Valverde, Cori Filosa, Kameryn Baker and 8 great grandchildren. Additionally, sister-in-law's Mary Lou De La Rosa, Liz Rosales, Jane Gonzales and Emma Johnson-Ortiz, along with many nieces, nephews and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Harry and Mary Miller; sisters Mary Murrell and Amanda "Susie" Waters; niece Sarah Waters, father and mother-in-law, Frank and Grace Johnson, sister-in-law's Mabel Morales, Lucy Portillo and brother-in-law Frankie Johnson. We would also like to thank Dr. John Glick for the care he gave our mom for the past two decades, as well as Angelica Torres, Alex Torres, Maria Juarez-Longoria, the absolute angels who cared for our mother and father round the clock, 7 days a week for the past 4+ years.
