Mrs. Gloria M. Maggard, 79, passed away on June 22, 2017, in Las Cruces, NM. Mrs. Maggard was a longtime resident of Las Cruces, where she raised her family and was a local business woman who spent many years in the banking industry here in Las Cruces. Mrs. Maggard was born in Mesilla, NM, on August 12, 1937 to Derwood Parten and Della Inez Pricer Parten. Her parents were the owners of Parten's Rio Grocery, Parten's Grocery and Parten's Foodarama, where Gloria spent many hours working alongside her family. She grew up in both Bayard and Las Cruces, NM and married her first husband, William Earl Shelton (deceased), in 1954 in Las Cruces and together they had three children; Jeffrey Lynne Shelton (deceased), Kimberly Anne Shelton - Lucht and Stephanie Kaye Shelton. After losing her first husband, she later met and married civil engineering professor Samuel P. Maggard. Her marriage to Sam expanded her family with four additional children; Nancy Carter (Glenn), Karen Corbett (Rick), Lawrence Maggard (deceased), and Amy Kincer. Mrs. Maggard is also survived by her siblings Jeannette Foreman (Lowell - deceased) of Las Cruces, Mary Louise Pritchett (Harold) of Vado, NM, Doug Parten of Las Cruces and Vance Parten of Cottonwood, AZ. Mrs. Maggard is also survived by 12 grandchildren and several great grandchildren and a large extended family. Also preceding her in death are her sons Jeffrey Shelton and Lawrence Maggard and her brothers Larry Parten and Jerry Parten along with her parents Derwood and Della Parten. Mrs. Maggard loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them whenever possible. She was loved deeply and was well respected and adored, not only by her family but by many people. She will be profoundly missed. Visitation will be at 5:00 p.m. Thursday June 29th at Getz Funeral Home with memorial services Friday June 30th at St Paul's United Methodist church at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at Masonic Cemetery. Pallbearers are Aaron Lucht, Justin Parten, Les Foreman, Christopher Parten, Chad Fulton and Joshua Carter.
