Life Legacy

Berna (Bernie) Deane Grannis, born July 13, 1935, of Las Cruces, NM passed peacefully June 30th, at Mesilla Valley Hospice. Berna was born in Marksville, Louisiana to Jacob and Ruth Mae (Richardson) DeVille. Bernie moved to California where she met and married Stanley Grannis, and together they raised three sons, Stanley Lee Grannis, Ronald Eugene Grannis and David Wayne Grannis. In 1963 the family moved to Las Cruces, NM. In 1968 Bernie started her career with NMSU. She retired almost 30 years later as Assistant Registrar. There she enjoyed helping students and the camaraderie of many fellow employees, some of whom she continued a lifelong friendship with. Bernie lived life to the fullest, enjoying traveling with many trips to Europe. In her later years, she enjoyed socializing with the many friends in her retirement community of Encantada Park, especially the group lunch dates. She was preceded in death by her sister Deryl and survived by her brother Jacob (Jard) DeVille. Special thanks to the caring professionals at Mesilla Valley Hospice and Getz Funeral Home.
