Pedro "Pete" Jimenez Lara Pete Jimenez Lara, 85, a resident of Hot Springs and Las Cruces, New Mexico died Sunday, September 21, 2014 at the New Mexico State Veterans Home in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. Pete was born April 16, 1929 in Sherman, New Mexico, to Jose C. Lara and Diega Gonzales Lara. After graduating from Hot Springs School in 1949, he went to work for Whitfield Transportation Co., of El Paso, Texas and Las Cruces, New Mexico. In 1951, he enlisted in the Army and was promoted to Cpl while serving as a Lt Weapons infantryman with the 1st Battalion, 136th Infantry Division in Germany. After his enlistment, he returned to Las Cruces to again work for Whitefield Transportation Co from 1953 to 1971. In 1998 he became a resident at the New Mexico State Veterans Home. Pete was known for his love of family and in particular for his many nieces and nephews. As a young man he was an enthusiastic member of the Hot Springs Volunteer Fire Department and the Sheriff's Posse. He was also known for his love of hunting and helping local ranchers. Pete was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Joe, Henry, Genaro and Raymond; five sisters, Virginia Chacon, Marcelina Otero, Carmen Ogaz, Cecilia Abila, and Isabel Parra. He is survived by two brothers, Miguel Norero and his wife Carrie Luchini Norero of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Harry L. Lara and his wife Alicia Apodaca Lara of Boulder City, Nevada. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives Visitation will be Thursday, September 25th from 5-7 pm at Getz Funeral Home in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Rosary & Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at The Cathedral of The Immaculate Heart of Mary on Friday, September 26, 2014 at 10 am. Burial will follow at the Catholic Cemetery in Garfield NM, Exit 51 (I-25 Northbound). Pallbearers will be Steve Lara, Mike Norero, Jon J. Chacon, Abie Parra Jr. Edmund Ogaz, and Harry Lee Lara. Should family and friends desire, memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the New Mexico State Veterans Home, 992 South Broadway Street., Truth or Consequences, New Mexico 87901.
