Life Legacy

Gilberto G. Martinez "Zero", 86, passed away February 14, 2015, in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Gilberto was born on October 25, 1928, in Hurley New Mexico to Librado and Epifaa Martinez. He then moved to Hatch in his early youth and attended school there until tenth grade. On May 18, 1947 Gilberto married the love of his life Hilda Garcia. Together they established a loving family and as a fuel entrepreneur they became business owners, and have maintained their business for 40 years and served the Village of Hatch community. He enjoyed fishing, spending time with his family and hosting gatherings for those who knew him, and after a long day at work going home where he played solitaire and enjoyed his cold beers. He always enjoyed a good meal and serving others with both his time and generosity. Gilberto was known throughout the Dona Ana Community and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Gilberto is survived by his loving wife Hilda G. Martinez of Hatch, NM; Son, Gilbert Jr. (Belinda) Martinez, Killeen, TX; Daughter, Natalia Martinez, Hatch, NM; Bobby (Ruby) Martinez, Las Cruces, NM; Daughter, Sadie (Fidel) Avilucea, Las Cruces, NM; Daughter, Alice (Edmund) Ogaz, Garfield, NM; Daughter, Judy (Ismael) Madrid, Maricopa, AZ; Son, Lee (Mary) Martinez, Hatch, NM; Son, Richard (Christina) Martinez, Casa Grande, AZ; and Sister, Esther Naranjo, Brothers, Salvador Martinez, Lupe Martinez, and Tony Martinez. He is also survived by 30 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. Gilberto is preceded in death by his Parents, Librado and Epifaa Martinez, Son; Reinaldo Martinez, Daughter; Theresita Martinez, Brother; Alejandro Martinez, Sister; Amelia Gutierrez, and Sister; Cecilia Candelaria. A visitation is scheduled to be held at Our Lord of Mercy Catholic Church at 120 Hartman St. in Hatch, New Mexico on Friday, February 20, 2015 at 6:00pm where a Prayer Vigil will immediately follow at 7:00pm. A Funeral Mass will also take place at Our Lord of Mercy Catholic Church on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 10:00am. Interment will follow immediately after the Funeral Mass at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Hatch, New Mexico. PDF Printable Version
