Nina Telles Banegas, 89 lifelong resident of Las Cruces, went home into the arms of our Heavenly Father on Saturday, August 22, 2015 at Memorial Medical Center surrounded by her loving family and sister, Josie Trujillo. She was born on July 23, 1926 to Alejo and Maria Alvina Telles. Nina graduated from Las Cruces Union High School in 1945 where she was elected prom queen. Nina was very well known for her coordination and support of the NMSU, Los Conquistadores Club which was formed at NMSU for the purpose to promote social life among Spanish-speaking students, to participate in the intramural athletics, and to give recognition to those members' who were scholastically outstanding. She was married to Lorenzo Y. Banegas on December 26, 1949 in Las Cruces and they were married for 51 years prior to him preceding her in death in 2001, which was eleven days before their 52nd anniversary. Together they had 7 children; the family has extended to include 31 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. They had seven children, Dr. Anna Lisa Banegas-Pea, (Richard, deceased) of El Paso, Martha Legarreta, (Richard), Janice Banegas-Atkins, (James), Vina Banegas-Craig, (Joel), Lawrence Banegas (Pancha), Louie Banegas (deceased) (Lourdes), of Las Cruces, and Tessie Kinnikin (Clay) of Carlsbad. Other family members include 31 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, Goddaughters and Godsons and her sister, Josie Trujillo. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lorenzo, son, Louie, two grandsons, Isaiah Kinnikin, and Angelo Legarreta, one sister Lita Alvarez; brothers, Alejo, Frank, and Joe Telles. Visitation for Nina will be Thursday, August 27, 2015 from 6-7 p.m., at Getz Funeral Home with a prayer vigil to follow at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Friday, August 28, 2015 at St. Genevieve's Catholic Church 100 S. Espina. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery where she will be laid to rest. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons, Jaime Banegas, Zeke Pea, Joshua Davenport, Arlando Legarreta, Alexis Banegas, Jordan Banegas, and Ryan Kinnikin. Honorary pallbearers are all her granddaughters, and grandsons. In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Nina T.
