Life Legacy

Lucinda (Lucy) Chavez Gamboa passed away at the age of 92 on January 21, 2016, at The Adobe Assisted Living Facility in Las Cruces. She was born in Las Cruces, NM on November 23, 1923 to Benjamin Chavez and Corina Camunez Chavez. Lucy was a graduate of Las Cruces Union High School. She worked in the retail business for a short time and then began a 26-year career in banking. She then worked for and retired from the 3rd Judicial District Court of Las Cruces, NM. Lucy believed one of her greatest accomplishments was her ability to raise her five boys and maintain a successful career. She was an avid reader, loved to cook, and cherished the moments she spent visiting with her families. She was married to Rudolph Gholson Gamboa for 64 years. She is survived by her sons Alfred (Donna), Ronnie (Bernice), Pat (Shannon), Tony (Diane) of Las Cruces, NM; and Louie (Lisa) of Albuquerque, NM. She is also survived by her sisters Minerva Moreno of Baltimore, MD and Margo Medina of Las Cruces; twelve grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; infant son, Rudolph and infant daughter Patricia; her parents; sisters Rosella Aranda, Jeanette Mendoza, Olga Jane Nelson, and her brother Benjamin Chavez, Jr. A rosary, followed by a funeral Mass, will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral on January 29th, 2016 at 10:00am. Interment of cremains will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens immediately following the services. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Mesilla Valley Hospice.
