July 10, 1958 — January 12, 2017

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved Keith Edward Almon formerly of Las Cruces, NM. He passed away on January 12, 2017 at New York Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital in New York where he resided since 1985. Keith was born in Toledo, Ohio in 1957. His family and he moved to Las Cruces in 1965. He attended Mayfield High School where he graduated with honors and received a full scholarship from Harvard University. Keith was one of the first students from Mayfield High School to attend Harvard. At Harvard, he majored in Economics and was very politically active. He channeled his passions into technology and the arts. Keith made his living combining both, through a career as a free-lance graphic designer. Keith built a community of fierce friends in his New York home. They shared his passion for the arts, travel, food and cooking. - Not to mention his love of dancing. He traveled the world-to South America, Canada, Mexico, Africa, and Europe. One of his favorite places was Istanbul, Turkey. In the last few years, Keith served on the board of the Greene Hill Food Co-op in Brooklyn, New York. He cared deeply about the success of this food co-op model and movement. While in Las Cruces Keith was a member of Bethel Second Baptist Church. In New York, Keith attended the Church of St. Luke and St. Matthew in Clinton Hill, where he volunteered to stay overnight and cook for homeless men. Keith was preceded in death by his father Jesse J. Almon of Las Cruces, NM. He is survived by his partner of 24 years, Bruce Marr of Clinton Hill, (Brooklyn) New York. He is also survived by his Mother, Helen Almon of Las Cruces, NM; His siblings Mary Crayon (Richard Crayon) of Toledo, Ohio; Elizabeth Conley of Cambridge, MA; Maxine Turner of Las Cruces, NM; and Darrell Almon (Brenda Cook-Almon) of Houston, Texas. He is also survived by his uncle, aunts, and numerous cousins from the Almon family in Georgia, and loving nieces and nephews. Homegoing services will be held Monday, January 30, 2017, with a viewing beginning at 9am and funeral services at 10am. Burial will follow funeral services at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
