October 20, 1941 — March 3, 2017

Baltazar Garcia Lucero Jr. (Tachie/Walter), 75 years, of Las Cruces, NM. He was surrounded by his loving family when he went to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, March 3, 2017. He was born in Mesilla, NM on October 20, 1941 to Baltazar Sr. and Isabel Lucero of Mesilla, NM. Baltazar married his soulmate Theresa of Las Cruces on October 20, 1962, both were parishioners at Holy Cross Church. Walter retired as an Aggie from New Mexico State University after 35 years of service as a Litho Technician and Printer. He loved to tailgate and attend Aggie football and basketball games. While at NMSU he spent his lunchtime exercising at the Natatorium swimming no less than a mile each day. As an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and golfing. He was also a skilled craftsman where the quality of all his work was reflected in his remodeling, building, and intricate designs of wood carving projects. His actions taught us how to be strong in life and also when death is near. His wishes were for us to live life to its fullest and enjoy family and friends at all times. He will be truly missed. He is survived by his wife, Theresa, of 55 years; sons, Eric Lucero (Anna), Jake Lucero (Gabriela); daughters, Cathy Martin, Suzanne Trillo, Stephanie Pando (Robert); grandchildren, Matthew Lucero, Ross Lucero (Amanda), Antonio Naranjo, Jessie Lucero, Elena Naranjo, Shaina Sparks (Marcus), Brittany Martin, Jamie Martin, Isaiah Trillo, Aaron Trillo, Chris Diaz, Brianna Pando, Misha Pando; great grandchildren, Isabel Sparks, Aubrey Trillo, Joselyn Trillo. Other survivors include sisters and brother; Gloria Carrillo (Eddie), Rosella Lucero, Irma Rodriguez, Mike Lucero (Loretta), and many nephews, nieces, and cousins; and his dog Colby Cheese. Baltazar is preceded in death by Baltazar Sr. and Isabel Lucero (parents); Raul Lucero (brother); Consuelo Salas (sister); and Felicitas Ramirez (sister). Recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 7:00 p.m., March 13, 2017 at Getz Funeral Home, 1410 E. Bowman Ave.; visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., March 14, 2017 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 1327 N Miranda St. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery where he will be laid to rest.
