August 3, 1927 — May 23, 2017

Eva Mesa Avalos returned home to her heavenly Father on Tuesday May 23rd, 2017 at Mountain View Regional Medical Center at the age of 89. Eva was born in Fort Stockton, Texas to Francisco and Dolores (Urquidi) Mesa on August 3rd, 1927. Eva spent her childhood years growing up in Ft. Stockton and Ft. Davis, TX before moving to the Mesilla Valley in 1943. After moving to Las Cruces at the urging of her older sister Lou, her family moved to Simpson Farms where both her parents worked as laborers. Through working at Simpson Farms, Eva met her future husband Adolfo. The two were married on December 1st, 1948 at St. Genevieve's Catholic Church. After a few years more years of working on the farms, they later moved to town and both obtained jobs with Las Cruces Public Schools. Eva began her career with the schools as a baker at Conlee Elementary and later attained the position of cafeteria manager at Lynn Middle School and then later at East Picacho Elementary. During her many years of service, she was recognized numerous for quality food production and record keeping. She had over 30 years of service with the schools before her retirement in 1991. She will best be remembered for her incredible cooking and baking skills not only through her job but more importantly the meals and treats she made for her family and friends. She was well known for her red enchiladas, bizchochos, and her famous chocolate glazed cookies. Eva will forever be remembered as a treasured daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She is survived by her three children: Adolfo Avalos Jr. (Tedde) of Conroe, TX; Edward Avalos of Las Cruces, NM; and Terri Singh (Jerry) of Las Cruces, NM. She is also survived by her brother, Henry Mesa of El Paso, TX; 11 grandchildren: Alexandra Terrill, James Avalos (Crystal), James Avalos, Dwain Avalos (Amy), Megan Skinlo (Mark), Jared Singh, Adam Avalos (Laura), Russell Avalos (Lauren), Felicia Avalos, Jamie Savage (Josh), and Kyle Avalos; several great grandchildren; many other family and friends. She is predeceased by her parents Francisco and Dolores Mesa; her husband, Adolfo Avalos; her son Richard Avalos; her brothers Frank Mesa and Willie Mesa; and her sisters Ophelia Chavez and Lou Krebs. Visitation will be held from 6-7pm followed by the praying of the Rosary at Getz Funeral Home on Wednesday May 31st. Funeral Mass will be held at 10am at Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral on Thursday June 1st with interment to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. PDF Printable Version
