James "Jim" Franklin Horton passed away March 26, 2016, in Las Cruces, NM. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, many aunts, uncles, as well as his niece. He is survived by his wife Patricia Horton of Las Cruces, NM, his sister Rosemary and Husband Dr. Rodney Griffin of Magnolia, AR, his brother Lynn Horton and wife Janet of Fordyce, AR, his two sons Chris Horton and Wife Amy of Portales, NM and Todd Horton and wife Jennifer of Las Cruces, NM and four grandchildren: Brett, Dylan, Ainsley, and Jillian. He was born to Leonard and Mildred Horton in Magnolia, Arkansas on December 4, 1953. James began his ministry in 1973 in Arkansas and retired from the ministry in New Mexico in 2013, culminating a total of 40 years in church ministry. A graduate of MHS, Ouachita Baptist University and Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. James was a lifelong learner. James enjoyed watching sports, reading, musicals, and spending time with family. He was most passionate about sharing his faith in Jesus Christ, loving God first and people, fulfilling the Great Commandment. Never desiring the spotlight, James, humbly served behind the scenes, relishing the quietness of a private life that sacrificed for others. He was compassionate toward all people fulfilling his Christian calling. He was full of laughter, ever the jokester, and quick witted, with a dry sense of humor. He loved telling stories and jokes, writing funny songs and writing short stories about his beloved dogs. Leaving a Legacy of faith and family, James "Jim" will be missed by all treasured always.
